Spontaneous Writing about Human Needs vs Environment
This text was written for online TOEFL exercise. I was given 30 minutes to write my opinion about what is more important: human needs like farmland, housing, and industry or the forest and endangered animals?
DISCLAIMER: I did very little research for this writing of course, this is a spontaneous writing for TOEFL exercise. No cheating, no peeking. (I did a bit actually, just to make sure I didn't misspell.)
Humans are probably the most complex living things on earth. They are blessed with intellectual and emotional intelligences that they have the ability to manage other living things to improve their own living quality. With that intelligences, human population grow massively over the decades. Each decade creates new technologies and innovations to make ease of the fulfillment of human needs, such as farmland, housing, and industry. Some humans pay a huge attention to these three things as the main needs above others. Even though it is important to fulfill human needs under the name of humanity, humans need to understand that they are living in an enormous ecosystem of earth that consist of other living things, environment, and their balances. When something gets imbalanced in the earth, the effect may cause harm to all of the earth community including humans. This imbalance can be caused by massive fulfillment of human needs that oppress the needs of the virgin lands, oxygen producing forests, and endangered animals. Human needs like farmland, housing, and industry are important for the sake of humanity, but humans have to also keep balance on earth by taking care of the forests and endangered animals. By this explanation, I disagree that humans can put their needs above the needs of other living beings to not provide an opportunity for the endangered animals to live in balance. It can be considered ideal if humans make strategic moves when it comes to expand farmland, housing, and industrial areas. Farmland can be converted from horizontal to vertical using technologies like hydroponics or other vertical farming methods, conventional housing can be converted to flats, and industrial areas can work on their waste management. Corporates and governmental institutions can also take leading moves of caring for the earth by carry out endangered animals' conservation or reforestation as the form of responsibility to the mother earth. Human individuals can also take part as a responsible citizens of earth by implementing environmentally friendly lifestyle.
