A Time for Myself

Image
These times are like a long long long holiday. People are stuck inside their houses. Me, a homebody, are sparked with plans. Paint, write, read novels, learn a new song, journal, scrapbook, plant veggies, bake cakes, there's a lot more to my bucket list. Things that I'd like to do by myself, to make myself happy. Looks like having a time for myself is quite hard at home. Been so many months and my bucket list is still unchecked well. I keep on thinking about other people and how I can be there every time. What if someone needed my help when I am all by myself painting? Who else will be that one-call-away buddy? When I am having a time for myself, I miss a lot of chance to be helpful and useful, and I feel guilty for that. These thoughts set distance from my time for myself. More dangerously, they put me into "available" mode almost all the time: sitting by my phone or something else less "time for myself" to be one-call-away. Sometimes I just want to go away...

It's a big day, I bet this day is going to be tiring. The sun is still littly peeking through a row of windows, creating some dramatic diagonal light pillars. After we had breakfast, I head to the place where I will be owned by the next couple of hours: a big tall bookcase, covering the whole wall in one side of the living room. Mom is in charge of the kitchen and the fridge, dad is out there with the plants, big sis is with a mountain of laundry, and lil bro is surrounded by pets waste. The pets? Well, I hope they don't mess up. A bookcase might sounds pretty "meh" compared to the other tasks, but this particular bookcase is no joke. Everything is mixed here: books (of course), photo albums, tons of notebooks, old CDs, old cassettes, electronic devices (broken and not), rarely used kitchenware, stationeries, board games, toys from when we are babies, until stacks of old blankets and curtains. Complete chaos. My specialty is to deal with them until the bookcase is at ...

The Book I Will Never Finish

The book is just a stretch of my hand. Tiny green bookmark pops up near the quarter part of the book. I hesitated a bit, but then decided to take it. I have not read much of this book, more exactly, refrain from reading it too quickly. One chapter went by just minutes. I desperately want to continue, but I put on my bookmark, close the book, and put it back again nicely. The book sit perfectly for me to stare at. I just cannot finish this. Not because the story is boring nor it brings bad influence, but I don't want to finish it. I don't want it to be over. I've been reading since the earliest memory of my childhood. The moment I recognized how to read, I spelled out every signs and boards on the road. Before ten, I've finished a (non-R rated, of course) novel series in just two weeks, not enough to fill my school break. I've been craving more and more books. I read like I only got minutes left to finish it. I read so much that my mind can create sentences just from...

He said to her that when he died, he wanted to be born again as anything: a flower, a butterfly, a grass, a bird, a tree, a rock, or even a slight wind, name it. Anything, as long as it is close to her. What has he done? He gone. She was broken, as broken as she could be. She mourned to the bone. She hated everything, including herself. Even the morning sun won't warm her. But between those dark days, or maybe even after dark days become peaceful companions, she started to love everything around her. The flower bloomed this morning. It is very pretty. Thank you for blooming for me. There is a butterfly sitting on the window frame, looking at me. Thank you for visiting me today. The wind is very soothing. Dandelions are flying away with it like fairies. Thank you for wrapping such beautiful scenery around me. I almost not eating. I thought you become a tomato. I don't want to eat you, so I just kiss the tomato. Then almost every veggies. Which one is you? Seok-Ha is getting stro...

Spontaneous Writing about Human Needs vs Environment

This text was written for online TOEFL exercise. I was given 30 minutes to write my opinion about what is more important: human needs like farmland, housing, and industry or the forest and endangered animals? DISCLAIMER: I did very little research for this writing     o f course, this is a spontaneous writing for TOEFL exercise. No cheating, no peeking. (I did a bit actually, just to make sure I didn't misspell.) Humans are probably the most complex living things on earth. They are blessed with intellectual and emotional intelligences that they have the ability to manage other living things to improve their own living quality. With that intelligences, human population grow massively over the decades. Each decade creates new technologies and innovations to make ease of the fulfillment of human needs, such as farmland, housing, and industry. Some humans pay a huge attention to these three things as the main needs above others. Even though it is important to fulfill human needs u...

Bincang Malam

Misal sekarang lagi jadi anak, ya bersikaplah s...
